Director of Middle East Operations

Gary Laing joined Global Linguist Solutions (GLS) as Director of Middle East Operations in February 2015. He immediately deployed to Kuwait with the mandate to implement The New GLS philosophy and transform GLS operations to exceed customer expectations, and for GLS to become the preferred place to work for language professionals.

Gary has over 30 years of leadership experience in the military, intelligence, and business communities working with industry and the public sector (Department of State and Department of Defense).

Prior to joining GLS, Gary led business development and program management activities AECOM in diverse locations such as Liberia and Afghanistan from 2010 to 2015 — with an excursion into DynCorp to work as an advisor for the Afghan National Army to develop their internal and external marketing campaigns.

Gary helped shape the Atmospheric Program in Afghanistan as a rapid-response indicator of messaging effects for ISAF in Kabul and the Regional Commands throughout the theater. Upon assuming the role of Program Manager, he rapidly converted the effort into a profitable undertaking for the company.

Gary led the US State Department effort in 2005 to establish the counter terrorism unit in Indonesia TF-88 which has successfully arrested several top cell leaders and disrupted their operations. He also led the State Department effort in 2009 to establish the Presidential Security Unit for South Sudan developing the curriculum, establishing the training facilities, and executing the basic and advanced training cycles.

Gary served 9 years in the U.S. Army as an Infantry and Special Forces Officer, culminating in command of an Operational Detachment Alpha in the Far East. Departing military service in 1992, he has spent almost all of his career overseas working with other cultures in delivery of high quality services.

Gary holds an MBA from University of Phoenix and a BS from the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he concentrated in Military History.

Gary lives in Hernando, MS with his wife, two children, three dogs, and two cats. He has two adult children.
